Biography

The Jonesz Bio

Montreal’s reputation for unleashing new heights of musical ingenuity and originality has proved itself again and again, but the home of Arcade Fire and Chromeo is also a hotbed of undiscovered hip hop. From the creative comfort of the 3dB Studio, the Jonesz (mc Jesse Maxwell and producer patr00) have been preparing their 2 cents since first crossing paths in the Montreal hip hop scene back in 2006. Armed with an Akai MPC 2000XL, a vinyl library and some analog keys, patr00 makes production look easy. He provides the hypnotic strut, the soul-drenched head-nod and the melodic inspiration for Jesse’s arsenal of descriptive details and skilled storytelling.
“Most of our studio sessions are like a freestyle. Often patr00 makes a beat on the spot and I come with some lyrics written the night before, or just off the top, and we leave with a blueprint for the final track.”
Born in Sztum, Poland, patr00 aka Patrick Antoniewicz, moved to Canada with his family in 1996 with 6 years of piano training to his credit. 2003 saw the birth of his 3dB Studio, where his music school chops combined with his love for sound production in a serious evolution of style. He released his HYPERLINK "http://patr00.com/rn2.html" \t "_self" Random Note LP in 2005 (7000 downloads) featuring Canadian and Polish artists, as well as producing a heavy 4 studio albums (over 10,000 downloads) for MTL based Polish hip hop outfit Ortega Cartel. He further cemented his pervasive web-presence by creating HYPERLINK 16pads.com, a popular online hub for MPC inspired beat making and beat making videos.
Jesse Maxwell was born in Toronto, and cut his teeth freestyling with friends and recording at home. After moving to Montreal in 2002, he found himself regularly grabbing the mic as part of a local group of MC’s who played in bars and clubs around the city. After his fated meeting with patr00 in 2006, he started focusing on completing solo material, and soon after The Jonesz was formed. Their debut album was released by P-Vine Records (Blues Interactions, Inc) in Japan and on Asfalt Records in Poland. Maxwell's talents are featured on Specifics 2007 Japanese released album SPECIFICS II, aswell as a feature on P-Vine's "Mellow Beats, Spirits & Freedom" compilation and several features on previous Ortega Cartel releases.
